A 1,000 year sentence doesn’t come around too often so NewsBall wouldn’t be doing it’s readers justice if we didn’t at least acknowledge the historic monumental courtroom event today.
Ariel Castro, the Cleveland, Ohio man who held 3 girls captive spanning a decade, spoke at his sentencing hearing before getting LIFE + 1,000 years in prison. He acknowledged during his sentencing hearing on Thursday that he played Russian roulette with the victims. Prosecutors had said he gave the women an unloaded revolver before pressing it against his head and telling them to pull the trigger.
Castro blamed the FBI saying they let the victims down – if only they had interviewed him it would have all been over years ago. He says the sex between him & his kidnapped victims was consensual, that many times the victims asked for sex, & he says there was harmony in the house. Truly the poster monster for a delusional psychopath who has justified his crimes in order to stay sane from bashing his head into his prison cell. After he was done speaking, the judge started the long monotonous process of going through all 975+ charges. Never have heard such a recital by a judge sentencing a defendant. When the calculations were done, & the consecutive sentences were stacked, the end result was a LIFE sentence + 1,000 more years, but then a comedic moment as Castro gets “credit for 87 days served“. The closing speech by the judge is truly powerful & even patriotic – as he condemns Castro to die in confinement & that America will not stand for slavery.
Below are Castro’s uncut speech in it’s entirety & the judge’s sentencing also in it’s entirety. Also thank you speeches from the 3 decade long kidnapped & repeatedly raped victims: Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, & Michelle Knight.

I actually live in the area and it was interesting to hear people’s take on the whole scene that happened today. Do you know if he is going to general pop or being secluded for 1,000 yrs. Newsball?
Ohio Department of Corrections is deciding his permanent home now. Wherever he goes he will be in isolation as he has been for 90 days now. It’s possible he could get placed in a special needs pod, but definitely not general population. Never.
